I like to browse Joyce Hiflers book and came across this. I like what she says.
“There are times when it pays to stop being panicky and get back in the boat. The only way we can drown in all that is going on today is to run scared and lose our heads, When we lose control of our thoughts we let people and circumstances stampeded us into making all the wrong turns.____ When we hear something or see anything that disturbs our peace of mind, we can ask ourselves if what appears to be true is really factual and if it affects us to the point of recklessness. Anything that causes us to stop and think before we run off the deep end will be a saving factor and will give us time to get a new perspective.____When we take other people’s word to heart too quickly there is often a misunderstanding. And misunderstandings result in the loss of friendships and peaceful attitudes.____Everyone expresses himself (or herself) differently, as we should expect, but if we have become so thin-skinned about certain things that ire us, we are apt t put our own interpretation on something someone said that is not right at all.____Before we hoist our hostile flag towards anyone, we need to get a clearer meaning, and the only way is to ask. Time often clarifies issues and a discussion frequently erases the whole problem.____Lovers of familiar ways dislike giving up anything that has served them well. Yet, it never fails that when something forces them into change they wonder why they had not thought to do it long ago.
Nicely said! I like food for thought. Do you remember the sayings on the tea bags?
I live in Southern Maine. I am the owner of Anisette Studios. My website is https://www.anisettestudios.com/ Here you can view and purchase Shibui, sign up for my newsletters, blog, and read articles about Shibui Found Image Art. Patrons get great deals several times a year and special items at times. My site makes it easy to contact me. My primary art form is Shibui Found Image Art. Shibui begins with action art and stems from the imagination. It is like seeing something in the clouds or solving a puzzle. Its creative process has its own rules and requires what I call reverse engineering due to a lack of an understructure and purely out of the imagination. In addition to those who patron me, my target groups are those who use art therapy. I will soon be teaching live. Contact me if you would like to learn live. I use Zoom. I request that although my art, other images, and what I write is now published by me here on WordPress; I do ask you do not to use my artwork, poetry, or the information about Shibui Found Image Art without my permission. I am quite available to make such requests. I wish to share the following: The existentialist philosopher Simone de Beauvoir wrote a book called The Ethics of Ambiguity. In it, she lays out a guiding ethic in response to the philosophy of existentialism. It might be somewhat familiar to you already. She writes, “To will oneself free is also to will others free. This will is not an abstract formula. It points out to each person concrete action to be achieved.”
Best wishes to all! Have good times and keep safe! Pejj
Very sensible advice. We are too ready nowadays to judge instantly, to accept what we read, or hear, or see, to be the truth, and to worry about all sorts of things that we can do nothing about.
Yes, and seeking out books or what ever it is to find those words we believe in so empowering. I was lucky to have Joyce Hifler’s books at 16. That was 50 years ago! Such treasured companions they have been. I like sharing them.
