Pretty Blue Flag, by Pejj Nunes
The Wild Iris! Brilliant blue, exquisite and majestic.
Poising among the blades of gold and green grass.
Watching the sift whirl of current passing by.
That which has brought me here, where I come to stare.
At such beauty and grace. There it is! Mid-spring to summer.
Standing stiff, sword like leave; cut those who dare to touch,
Their velvet heads___. I am in awe. Deadly, their roots beware.
And then one day they are gone, waiting for next year.
Elegant, lovely, ethereal in the grass. I’ll wait for them____.
